PÕLVA — An unidentified drone has sparked controversy in Põlva after locals claimed it swooped down and snatched a loaf of traditional bread straight from a grandmother’s garden.

The resident, 72-year-old Leida, was reportedly enjoying her afternoon sauna before the incident. “I heard a buzzing sound and then saw it—my leib was flying away!” she exclaimed.

Local authorities dismissed the event as a mere rumor, but the bakery shelves have felt the impact. “We can’t keep bread in stock since the sighting, people think they need to secure their black bread from the ‘flying thief,’” said Tonis, a local baker.

“I even saw a sign on a drone saying ‘Kohv and Leib Delivery!’ I just thought it was my imagination—turns out it was real!”

Experts believe drones have now become more than just technology; they’ve turned into modern-day pirates, eyeing treasures like leib and summer preserves. “People have to be vigilant. We recommend putting a sauna hat on your garden to keep it safe,” suggested local tech guru Juri.

As the headlines buzz with intrigue, locals wonder if they can expect a ‘Drone Watch’ program similar to the popular ‘Sauna Watch’ initiative. At press time, Põlva’s residents reported a suspicious flying object hovering around the bakery.
