TALLINN — Tallinn officials proudly announced the grand opening of the long-awaited tram line, which was originally supposed to launch four years ago. The city treated the event like a national holiday, complete with fireworks and marzipan.
Despite the delays, local resident Mart claimed, “This is better than Christmas! My leib and kohv can now travel with me at 30 km/h instead of walking!”
Many residents gathered to hop on the tram for the first time, only to celebrate by getting off at the first stop, allowing for the maximum photo opportunity with the shiny new vehicle.
“I stood in line for four years just to ride this thing once! Worth every cold winter!”
The tram’s delay reportedly stemmed from a lengthy debate over whether it should be green, red, or the ever-popular Tallinn grey — a nail-biting saga that gripped the city.
City officials capitalized on the buzz, declaring the tram line a success, with Mayor Peeter announcing, “It’s not about the destination; it’s about the amount of time you waited!”
At press time, celebratory marzipan was sold out throughout the city as excited citizens rushed to place their first tickets on the newly opened line.
