TALLINN — Air Baltic has announced the cancellation of all winter flights from Tallinn to London due to “unprecedented enthusiasm for staying home this winter.” The airline believes they are doing the nation a favor by promoting local holiday destinations.

”We thought we were being helpful, really,” said CEO Martin Jaanson. “Why travel to London when you can experience the thrill of sitting in your own sauna for the umpteenth time? Just think of the savings on leib and kohv!”

As snow begins to blanket Estonia, the airline has turned its eyes towards local tourism, encouraging residents to explore hidden gems in Saaremaa or indulge in more hearty portions of verivorst. Many social media posts following the announcement have featured locals donning their winter gear while soaking in their hot tubs rather than embarking on long-haul flights.

”What better way to celebrate the holidays than trekking through knee-deep snow on a three-hour hike to the nearest Rimi?”

— Aivo, local enthusiast

The government has hailed the initiative as a win for sustainability, with officials noting that this situation could be a pivotal moment for the country’s economy. “If everyone stays within our borders, it just might prevent a shortage of rye bread for the rest of the winter. Talk about efficiency!” said Minister of Tourism, Kadri Kask.

At press time, Air Baltic was offering special packages that included a complimentary leib to all passengers unwilling to part with their beloved home comforts.
