TALLINN — Estonia has officially unveiled a new €2 coin featuring Sipsik, the beloved puppet character from children’s literature. Citizens are reportedly torn between emotions ranging from enthusiasm to mild indifference.

”When I heard the news, I immediately brewed a fresh pot of kohv to celebrate. I can’t believe we get to carry a piece of childhood nostalgia in our pockets now!” said Peeter, age 43, while digging through his couch for loose change.

“It’s just a coin. I prefer coins that can actually buy something,” complained Kadri, a disgruntled shopper in Rimi. “Although Sipsik is cute, what am I supposed to do with it, jingle it in my pocket?”

The Bank of Estonia has expressed confidence that the Sipsik coin will foster a new wave of national pride. Although some citizens have joked that they might simply use it as a prop in their next sauna gathering.

At press time, rumors were swirling about a competing €2 coin featuring Kalevipoeg, but officials declined to comment, insisting there needs to be a festival to properly announce it.
