TARTU — A local barista at Café Jaanika has sparked outrage in Tartu after brewing coffee without consulting official guidelines from the Ministry of E-Coffee.
Patrons were shocked when their espressos arrived with an unexpected flavor profile, leading to heated debates about the sanctity of Eesti kohv.
”I didn’t even know there were official guidelines! I thought coffee was just coffee!”
The e-Coffee program, which requires all coffee shops to use specific beans selected by the Estonian Coffee Council, is designed to maintain a national standard. The Ministry is investigating how a violation of this magnitude occurred.
“One cup of Americano with mysterious taste and suddenly Estonian identity is at stake,” said local elder Toomas, who claims his morning ritual is now forever tarnished.
In response, Café Jaanika is preparing an apology event, offering free suusatoit (ski snacks) with each correctly brewed cup to regain the trust of displaced coffee enthusiasts.
Should the barista survive this outrage without ending up in a sauna for punishment, it will be a miracle. At press time, citizens were seen contemplating the fate of coffee culture in Estonia.
