TALLINN — After a traumatizing experience waiting 38 seconds for a tram on his daily commute, local man Mart has taken drastic measures by constructing a bunker in his backyard.
”It wasn’t just a delay; it felt like an eternity!” Mart said, wiping his brow as he surveyed his underground fortress made from concrete blocks and an old sauna stove. “I can’t risk my precious time being wasted again. This is for my personal safety!”
Neighbors have mixed feelings about Mart’s new construction, some bewildered, others enthusiastic. “You can never be too prepared for delays around here,” said Juri, who lives next door and is considering adding a moat around his garden. “In Estonia, we build for the worst, like the sauna, and now this!”
When asked about his bunker plans, Mart elaborated: “I’ll have leib, kohv, and a Wi-Fi connection. All the essentials needed to survive any tram delay or e-Estonia outage.”
Though Mart’s initiative has received support from some locals, others worry it could lead to an influx of underground bunkers in the neighborhood. “What’s next, a sauna bunker?” asked Liisa, a concerned resident. “We don’t want to turn Kalamaja into a post-apocalyptic zone; it’s supposed to be hip!”
At press time, Mart was reportedly still negotiating with the city for a permit to expand his bunker and offer guided tours.
